First of all, how has the first days at NTC been going?
- After a nice and well-deserved break after Worlds we started the 2017-2018 season Monday, August 28th with 15 swimmers. A few more than we ended last season with. We look forward to work with this diverse group of 6 men and 9 women, young upcoming talent and arrived, seasoned elite athletes. The first days have been great and we are happy to be on the road to progress and success again.
What is the focus for you on NTC in the beginning of this season?
- Less is more! It’s all about being efficient and building the building blocks of each individual athlete while keeping them fit, hungry and happy.
What are you working towards in this season at NTC?
- This year is all about the Europeans. First the European Short Course in Copenhagen, later the Europeans in Glasgow. A great chance to get our group more experienced on the international stage and a great chance for Denmark to celebrate the beautiful sport of swimming with the home championships in December.
You have worked with Mads Bjørn Hansen for some months now. How are you guys working together and how is the co-operation going?
- I was fortunate to be able to have a role in finding the second coach on the NTC after I was appointed myself. It has been a great pleasure working with Mads and I think we are a good team together with all the other people of the federation and Team Denmark that support us in our job. On deck we run the show literally together. Also the planning of the training and the program itself we write in close collaboration. And we spent quite some time on the bike together when we bike from the pool to the office and back. A good way to combine some physical activity with some good conversations. Each bike ride basically helps us to be better at the pool as well.
Mange tak til Martin Truijens for interviewet.
