Læs meget mere her!

Pressemeddelelse fra LEN:

LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup 2017 – Preview

Newly shaped series with new stars

LEN is to launch a newly shaped series in open water swimming, the ever-popular European Cup, involving exciting new venues and a couple of new stars, including Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, Olympic champion in the 1500m free in Rio. Again, € 21,000 are up for grabs in prize money for the best ones.

The LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup has enjoyed great popularity among the swimmers in recent years, however, LEN is committed to improve the quality of the series.

Exciting new venues and exciting competitions are in sight for 2017 as major cities like Barcelona (ESP) and Copenhagen (DEN) join the show in this season. The competitions will have a new image and swimmers will enjoy equally high standards at all events featured in the calendar.

“We really wish to offer something new and definitely something even better for our athletes” LEN Operational Manager Marco Birri said. “The series will enjoy a refreshed design in venue dressing, all hosts are committed to create the best environment for the participants. The European Cup has a huge potential as the discipline is witnessing a boom. LEN wants to offer outstanding competitions for the continent’s swimmers who are dominating at the world level. They deserve this, for sure.”

The kick-off meet is to be held in Eilat (ISR), as usual. This race will welcome one of the brightest stars of the pool events, Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, the reigning Olympic, world and European champion in 1500m free. Paltrinieri had hinted after the Rio Olympics that he might have a try in the 10km and he has recently announced that he plans to debut in the wild waters in Israel, on 26 March.

After the World Champs in 2013, Barcelona welcomes back the top open water swimmers as the city will host the second leg of the European Cup on 1 July. August will witness two more stages, a traditional one in Navia (ESP) and another thrilling adventure in the canals of Copenhagen (DEN).

Italy will host the final leg once more, this time in Bracciano, in mid-September, where the distribution of the prize money pot of 21,000 Euros is decided.
